We are pleased to announce the award of the Corsby cello to Josh Salter, a postgraduate student of Jonathan Manson at the Royal Academy of Music.
He began the cello at the age of ten in Hull, and subsequently entered the Sixth Form at Chethams. His undergraduate studies took place at the Royal Northern College of Music, whence he graduated in 2015 with first class honours.
Among his prizes are the Raphael Sommer Memorial Scholarship and the Stephen Bell Charitable Trust. Performances with orchestra include concerti by Saint-Saens, Elgar, Stamitz and most recently Dvorak, with the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra in November 2015. His chamber music performances include live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, recitals at St Martin-in-the-Fields and other music venues. Festivals include Aberystwyth Musicfest, Lake District Summer Music, Suffolk Villages Festival and Mendelssohn on Mull.
Already enjoying a blossoming range of freelance commitments, Josh has performed with the Halle, BBC Philharmonic, RLPO, OAE and Hanover Band. He regularly appears as principal cellist of the Essex Baroque Orchestra.
