At 15, Daria Lalji is one of the youngest double-bass players to perform with the London Schools Symphony Orchestra. Prior to that she was a member of the National Children’s Orchestra for 4 years. She won first prize in the U12 Double-Bass category at Sutton Music Festival in 2012, and the year before was a finalist on Trumpet in the Wandsworth Young Musician competition.
Daria is presently attends the Merton Music Foundation on Saturdays, where she studies double-bass, trumpet, piano and singing in preparation for music college.
Daria recently toured to Sweden with the LSSO, and has joined a quintet which will performg Schubert’s Trout at St John’s Smith Square.
Daria had a specific need for a double bass with a narrower neck as the stretch required for the standard instrument she was using has caused mild tendonitis in her right hand. We were able to find a modern Hungarian instrument with a tapered back that met her needs and her condition is now improving.
