As a percussionist, one is expected to play every single instrument of the percussive family. However, it was behind the harmonies of the marimba and the vibraphone, when only 10 years old, that a new passion was born.
Having studied under the direction of sounding names of the likes of Pedro Carneiro, Owen Gunnel and Huw Warren, Diogo Gomes has, throughout his musical career, worked with many sounding names of the musical world, as, for example, Jean Sebastian Bereau, Carlo Rizzi, Pascal Gallois and Terry Jones from Monty Python, to name a few.
His history of performances is already quite notable in his young career: amongst them, are worth noting the dutch Nieuw Ensemble, playing solo at the BBC Proms Portrait, several operas under the direction of the renowned maestro Carlo Rizzi, the production Neverland in Italy, created by Firenza Guidi, guest percussionist for the Rossini Revealed Festival 2016, in London and the project Side by Side, with the Welsh National Opera.
Upon completing his MMus in music education back in Portugal, and a MA in Classical Music Performance, Diogo Gomes is currently undertaking the MA Jazz Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
