Crossing Points: Cherubim Youth Music Festival: Friday

Between Rock & a Soft Space

We follow last year’s exciting percussion evening with a glimpse into some of the fantastic soundworlds created by the amazing Seaboard, a revolutionary new synthesizer that offers a whole new range of expressive possibilities to performers.

Tisbury-born Finn MurphycM leads his colleagues from the Guildhall School of Music Jamie Farrington and Sean Norris in a programme that crosses boundaries from the melodic minimalism of Ludovico Einaudi and Nils Frahm on acoustic piano to the spaciousness of Brian Eno’s Ambient Music for Airports, and includes live performances of their own music by these three exciting young electro-acoustic musicians.

We also welcome our newest awardee, the 15 year old BBC Young Musician Percussion Finalist Toril Azzalini-Machecler who has taken over the Cherubim marimba from Sam Wilson. It’s a deep-tuned xylophone. He performs some extraordinary new works on it, and Stop Speaking, a striking work on a single snare drum.
