Meet our new awardee: Katherine Sung. Belfast-born Katherine is embarking on her Masters at the Guildhall this term. She is the third awardee of our modern Krutz violin and Pierce bow for the next 5 years. Formerly a member of the NYO, Katherine is now in the Guildhall SO and also appears as an extra with the Ulster Orchestra and other ensembles including Michael Bublé’s touring band. She is a keen cyclist and rock climber.
Zachary Hayward enters the Guildhall this autumn on a scholarpship, having studied horn in the Junior Guildhall while a pupil at Lancing College. He is the second awardee of the ‘Gosling’ Paxman horn. In July Zac played principal horn in East Sussex Youth Orchestra’s Tchaikovsky 5th Symphony; and was soloist in Strauss’s first horn concerto with Brighton Youth Orchestra – which went ‘stupendously’.
Bokun Wei. We are delighted that Bokun can join the Cherubim Chamber Soloists for our Festival as this will be his first and last performance for the Trust. Bokun is the third awardee of the ‘Manser’ flute. Having studied physics at UCL, Bokun will be leaving for a year’s exchange study at Washington U, as there is more flexibility for him to combine a physics major with a flute minor. He is still considering applying to music college at postgraduate level.
Hannah Harding recently gained her ABRSM Diploma. She also auditioned for and won a Robina Dallmeyer Award, which will pay for consultation lessons at the RCM with Sarah Burnett and Martin Gatt. She says “The Moosmann” has really helped me to go the next level with my playing and I absolutely love it!.”
Vicky Richmond has had a hectic time at RCM preparing for her technical and repertoire exams: playing Britten’s Metamorphoses and the Marcello Oboe Concerto. She very much enjoyed a Mozart project playing Symphony 35 – available now on YouTube!
