He also plays for Shirley Band, a championship adult band, Orchestra of the Swan Youth Orchestra, The Warwickshire and Coventry Youth Brass band and has recently been approached to join Flowers Band (an elite contesting band). He has also played with Tredegar and been invited to join Cory Band for a rehearsal.
Whilst taking part in a recent NYBB course he won the percussion section of the Katie Ogden competition, this means he will qualify for the Harry Mortimer Competition next summer. He has also won a few solo completions with ODBBA. Alec has competed in The National Youth Championships of Great Britain and The European Youth Championships 3 times alongside an appearance at the Brass in Concert Youth Championships.
‘I had been really fortunate to be able to hire a 4.3 marimba from Warwickshire Music since the pandemic, doubly so as their usual rental is only 1 year. Unfortunately all the repertoire I am currently playing is written for a 5 Octave marimba. I have been able to transpose some of the pieces down to a 4.3 but it is now causing me a lot of problems as the pieces are not working properly including pieces I want to play for my auditions to Music colleges.
I want to make music my life and next year will be applying for Music courses for my degree and I really want to stand out.’
Alex currently enjoys helping the new players at Shipston Training band working with the younger and less experienced players as they begin their musical journey.
