Kit Cookson
Cello – German c1880 'Myers'
'I am currently a specialist musician at Wells Cathedral School, fully funded by the Government's music and dance scheme, preparing for auditions at the leading London music conservatoires. Having the opportunity to play a significantly better quality cello would enable me to further pursue my ambitions and reach my potential, both as a soloist and an orchestral musician.
I am particularly excited at the prospect of playing on an instrument that replicates the incredible colour and depth of tone of the Guadagnini cello.'
Kit gained Grade 8 distinction in 2022 and is a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 2023. Whilst playing with the National youth orchestra of Wales in 2022 he was the recipient of the Irwyn Walters most promising string player award.
Over the last few years Kit has been a member of English Schools Orchestra, the National Youth String Orchestra, the junior department of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama 2020-22 and the Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Youth Orchestra from 2018-present.
Kit was a Music scholar from Cathedral School Landaff 2017-22 where he won the Paul Dallimore music prize in 2018/21/22.
