About the Event

Percussion duo SIROCCO invite you on a journey around the Mediterranean through the sound-world of percussion – exploring not only the rich cultures and sophisticated rhythms of the Middle East and Southern Europe; but also instruments like the marimba, riq, and darbuka in exciting and explosive new compositions and arrangements.

Programme includes works by Avner Dorman & Avishai Cohen (Isræl), Nebojša Jovan Živković (Jugoslavia)Tomer Yariv (Morocco) Maurice Ravel (France), Vicente Amigo (Spain).

Toril Azzalini-Machecler studies at the RCM. In 2018 and 2020 he reached the Percussion Finals in BBC Young Musician. He was Sussex Young Musician of the Year 2020, and category winner in the Medici International Competition. Currently the youngest member of the World Percussion Group 2021, Toril has played marimba in the pit at Glyndebourne, shared the stage with Dame Evelyn Glennie and plays regularly with Chineke! Toril also composes, winning the Junior RCM Joan Weller competition and being highly commended in the BBC Proms composition competition. 

Isaac Harari also studies percussion at the RCM. He was a Southern California Marimba International Artists’ Competition semi-finalist in 2021, a BBC Young Musician 2020 category finalist, and two-time regional finalist in the Yamaha Futurebeat competition, as well as being selected for the World Percussion Group’s artist roster in 2021. Isaac’s musical tastes are wide ranging. He composes /plays classical and jazz piano; as a drummer he performs jazz and contemporary fusion; recently he has performed at the Albert Hall with the RPO, and in the Hall’s Elgar Room as a soloist, as well as performing at the 606 Jazz Club in Chelsea.
