DESCRIPTION:A cabaret evening with one of today’s great comedy talents\na totally different night out in aid of charity! \nAlistair McGowan has long been known for his devastatingly accurate impressions\, winning a BAFTA for his BBC series The Big Impression. He appears regularly on radio and TV\, and was nominated for an Olivier Award for his performance in nationwide stage tour of Little Shop of Horrors. In 2015 he threw himself into the piano and emerged two years later with a #1 Classical Chart hit ‘The Piano Album’ on Sony Classical. SUMMARY:Cooperative Drumming 2023
DESCRIPTION:For nearly six months Wylye Valley School\, Codford has been the location of a unique experiment run by Cherubim Music Trust\, with funding from the Coop. Cherubim is a charity that lends professional orchestral instruments to music students; but like everyone in the music profession we have become concerned about where the next generation of musicians are coming from\, following the near-complete withdrawal of funding for instrumental lessons in primary schools and increasing restrictions on studying music in secondary schools. \nWe have previously offered concerts by our Cherubim Young Musicians to schools which were well received but made little longterm impact on children’s musical engagement we felt. Therefore on this occasion we designed a project offering children an extended experience of rhythmic music-making\, which we have filmed in the hope to make a template that other schools will find easy to follow. We called it Cooperative Drumming because it has been funded by the Coop\, but also because it demonstrates the social and musical gains that accompany cooperation. \nWe now come to the final concert given by the senior classes of the school where parents will see the mental and physical musicianship the children have acquired through the brilliant teaching of Alex Miles over several months. The course began with an introduction to percussion given by our Cherubim Young Musician Toril Azzalini-Machecler\, a BBC Young Musician semi-finalist who is now a student at the Royal College of Music; and he now returns for the final concert to perform with the children in their new-found musical confidence. \nThe concert will last about half an hour\, and feature three drumming pieces devised by the children themselves\, a duet groove with Toril\, and finally Toril showcasing some of the instruments and skills he employs in his professional work with orchestras.

DESCRIPTION:Fonthill House Open Garden Music Alfresco is upon us this Sunday (23 April) – a brief word about the riches that await you. \nThanks to Lord Margadale we have a classic English landscape as a background to the beautiful music playing live all afternoon. \nThe Cherubim Wind Quintet is performing classic works as well as familiar pop tunes. Our leading young concert harpist Clara Gatti-Comini plays in the sunken garden\, sometimes solo\, sometimes accompanying the sensational 16 year old Wells flautist Lily Owen\, for whom we are appealing for £15\,000 to buy a silver flute. And lastly our 15 year old ‘Stephane Grappelli’ Casey-Joan Whyte plays with her ‘Django Reinhardt’\, Cornelius Corkery. \nThere’s a huge lot more fun – with food\, a bar\, and a range of stalls selling both custom made artisan products to honey\, as well as a terrific raffle\, whose star prize is a bottle Islay single malt from our host. \nThen there are kids activities – hand drumming and art workshops\, and a chance to play on a drum kit.
