Rupert Sheppard


Cello: ‘Jordan’ & FC Neuveville bow with case

Rupert is a talented young cellist and multi-instrumentalist currently studying at Battle Abbey School and the Junior Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He has recently completed his GCSEs and is commencing A Levels in Music, History and Mathematics, alongside continuing his musical studies at Junior Guildhall, where he has completed his first year.

Rupert has achieved Grade 8 Distinction on both cello and piano, as well as Grade 6 Organ with Distinction. He has been recognised as Battle Abbey School’s Top Music Scholar and has achieved Gold Medal and String Recital success at the Hastings Musical Festival, where he was also named Young Most Promising Performer for two consecutive years. He has regularly competed in the Rotary Young Musician of the Year.

As a performer, Rupert has gained experience as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician. He has performed Rutter’s Requiem with the Whatlington Singers and has played with Battle Youth Orchestra, Sussex Concert Orchestra, Buxted Symphony Orchestra and Junior Guildhall Symphony Orchestra.

In November 2025, Rupert performed excerpts from Polo Piatti’s Old World Concerto for Cello and Orchestra with Hastings Sinfonia at the De La Warr Pavilion, having been personally invited by the composer. He performed Cantilena and Sicilian Waltz from the concerto.

Rupert aspires to continue his studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama after completing his A Levels, developing his career as both a soloist and orchestral musician.
