Zachary Ho

Zachary has been playing the clarinet since Year 2 and he has been exploring different musical genres on the clarinet in recent years. As Head Boy in his former school, he was an active member in the music department, being heavily involved with the school’s live lounges and their Jazz Collective.

He is Joint Principal Clarinet in the Bristol Youth Orchestra, and he performed Krommer’s Concerto for Two Clarinets No. 1 in November 2025 with the Bristol Lord Mayor in attendance. He will be playing the clarinet solo lines in a new commissioned piece for the orchestra written by Debbie Wiseman OBE in March 2026. He is also a key member of Bristol Pre-Conservatoire, in which he explores and performs different chamber music works.

As a musical theatre enthusiast, he has performed in multiple local amateur musical theatre productions such as Beauty and the Beast, Hello Dolly! and The Addams Family. Most notably, he has performed in a production of Carousel with the National Youth Music Theatre in August 2025, working with the professional West End Musical Director Flynn Sturgeon.
Zachary is now in his gap year and is actively deputising in local amateur orchestras such as the New Bristol Sinfonia and the Long Ashton Orchestra. He will be studying at the Royal Academy of Music with a scholarship from September ’26 for his Bachelor’s degree.

He would like to thank his family and friends for all their support throughout his musical journey.
Being awarded the ‘Donovan’ Buffet Tosca Clarinet in A will enable him to work on more virtuosic pieces in his upcoming studies, such as the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, Nielsen Clarinet Concerto and the Brahms Clarinet Quintet.
