July brought a particularly special occasion for the Cherubim Music Trust, as both our Director, Michael Maxwell Steer, and former Cherubim Young Musician Heather Brooks were recognised by the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
Michael was formally admitted as a member of the Worshipful Company of Musicians, joining one of the City’s oldest and most distinguished Livery Companies, dedicated to supporting musical excellence, education and the profession across the UK.

The ceremony was made all the more memorable by the recognition of former Cherubim Young Musician Heather Brooks, who received a special award for her outstanding work in music education. Heather was honoured for her exceptional schools outreach across Southern England, where she takes her harp into schools, introducing young people to the instrument through performances, workshops and interactive sessions that inspire the next generation of musicians.
Heather’s award reflects the values at the heart of the Cherubim Music Trust: not only supporting exceptional young performers, but encouraging them to share their artistry and passion with wider communities.
Alongside her extensive educational work, Heather continues to build an impressive career as a concert harpist. Most recently, she performed Ginastera’s Harp Concerto with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, demonstrating the same artistry that has characterised her career since her time as a Cherubim Young Musician.
Everyone at the Cherubim Music Trust extends their warmest congratulations to both Michael and Heather on these well-deserved honours. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and the contribution they continue to make to the musical life of the UK.
