Emma has been playing harp since the age of 6 achieving Distinction in Grade 8 piano at the age of 13 and Distinction in Grade 8 on the Pedal Harp 9 months later. One year later she earned her ARSM diploma on the piano and ARSM diploma with distinction on the harp.
She is currently in her second year of BMus undergraduate degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London and looking forward to pursuing her musical ambitions and furthering her knowledge of music.
She has achieved success in National and International competitions, including winning the Urdd National Eisteddfod on Solo harp twice. Competing in the National Eisteddfod and Gwyl Cerdd Dant she has won in the harp accompanying competition, and was the only UK finalist in the Wales International Harp Festival in 2018. More recently she also won the Young Musician competition at the Llangollen International music Eisteddfod.
“Being Welsh, I am fortunate to be part of such a strong harp community and have taken part in many workshops and masterclasses with many tutors including Elinor Bennett, Monika Stadler, Ben Creighton Griffiths and Dylan Cernyw, teaching me different techniques, interpretations and genres of music.
I was a member of the Gwynedd and Ynys Mon Harp ensemble and also the North Wales Harp ensemble. Creating music with others is special and excites me, I have recently formed a duo at the Academy with a Cellist and another with a Soprano. I love orchestral work and am looking forward to the orchestral opportunities that the Academy provides.”
Emma has been employed by local and National Eisteddfods as an accompanist in Wales for both choirs and musicians including the Welsh Male Voice Choir ‘Hogia’r Ddwylan’ and she is grateful to be able to support this unique tradition.
“Sharing my love of music is the most important thing to me, I feel I can communicate and emotionally connect through playing music. It gives me the power to engage with an audience, create an atmosphere and to touch someone directly.”
Emma is the newest recipient of Cherubim’s Salvi Aurora Harp
