We are delighted to welcome violist Lydia Atkinson as a Cherubim awardee.
Lydia is currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, having received scholarship offers from the Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music before choosing Guildhall.
For two years, she served as Principal Viola of the Royal Northern Sinfonia Young Sinfonia, performing regularly at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead. Alongside her orchestral work, Lydia has given a number of solo recitals, with repertoire including the Rebecca Clarke Viola Sonata, Glazunov’s Élégie, Vaughan Williams’ Suite for Viola, and the Hoffmeister Viola Concerto.
She has performed with several orchestras, including Newcastle University Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra North East, and is now a member of the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra in London.
An active chamber musician, Lydia performs with the Cavallini Quartet at Guildhall, where the ensemble receives coaching from Simon Rowland-Jones, Krysia Osostowicz, Caroline Henbest and Levon Chilingirian.
Lydia is the recipient of Cherubim’s Finkel ‘Allegro’ viola bow, generously offered to the Trust by Bill Benham.
We look forward to following Lydia’s upcoming performances, including appearances with the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, as well as a solo recital later in the summer term.
